UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles where UW is making the news.

The Sheridan Press reported on UW’s efforts to forge program-level articulation agreements with the state’s community colleges.

UW’s research facility, the AMK Ranch in Grand Teton National Park, will soon have upgrades, such as a new dormitory, water and wastewater treatment systems and aesthetic improvements to other buildings and structures, according to The Jackson Hole News and Guide.

The Laramie Boomerang featured Jeff Woodbury, a UW zoology and physiology associate professor, and his research work on uncovering skin sensory mysteries.

Sweetwater Now and County10 published UW’s press release about UW Assistant Professor Carl Legleiter’s research of meltwater drainage on the surface of the southwest Greenland ice sheet.

Numerous media outlets, including television station KULR in Billings, Mont., published an Associated Press brief about the arrival of renowned biomedical researcher Dr. Peter Nathanielsz as a member of the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources faculty. The Casper Star-Tribune also carried the story.

The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor and The National Catholic Reporter were among many national media outlets that reported on research by UW Department of Sociology Assistant Professor Shiri Noy on how many religious people view science favorably but reject certain scientific theories.

UW’s release about Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Professor Virginia Vincenti’s research on elder financial exploitation was picked up by numerous outlets, including Cheyenne’s CBS News Channel 5.

Wyoming Business Report published UW’s release on the four finalists for UW’s dean of the College of Business.

UW’s Endowed Chairs Initiative was discussed at last week’s Faculty Senate meeting, noted The Laramie Boomerang.

Retired UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages Professor Klaus Hanson was profiled in a Laramie Boomerang story.

The Idaho Statesman picked up an Associated Press story that quoted UW economics Professor Charles Mason who commented on how declining oil prices have slowed drilling in Wyoming.
