UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles where UW is making the news.

The Casper Star-Tribune, The Wyoming Business Report and Salt Lake’s KSL Radio were among the many media outlets noting that UW President Dick McGinity will leave his post in June 2016.

Many outlets announced that UW’s Rochelle Athletics Center will triple in size through a fundraising campaign. Among them were KGWN TV, Wyoming Public Media and Becker’s Orthopedic Review.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported that UW student Tabitha Briscoe won last week’s John P. Ellbogen $30K Entrepreneurship Competition for her outdoor equipment business plan.

UW’s nursing program is ranked by Best College Reviews, an independent college search and rankings website, among the “20 Best Online RN to BSN Programs” in the nation.

The International Business Times quoted UW energy economist Chuck Mason on the impacts on businesses caused by the offshore oil spill five years ago that has ravaged Louisiana’s marshlands.

The long-term sustainability of UW’s Honors Program will be examined by a university committee, according to The Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

Sheridan Media.com and e Science News used UW’s release on university researchers who are studying pikas as model organisms for avoiding temperature stress.

Matt Kauffman, head of the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit located at UW, was interviewed by The Cody Enterprise about his research on Wyoming wildlife migration patterns.

The New York Daily News won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2014 contest for its five-part series on New York's NCAA basketball tournament history at Madison Square Garden. The series centered on UW basketball legend Kenny Sailors.

UW’s Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center is among the nation’s “most amazing” campus student recreation centers, according to Best College Reviews.

KGWN TV carried UW’s release that the UW Geological Museum was ranked 12th from a college campus website on a list of the "50 Most Amazing College Museums."

Sheridan Media.com reported that UW Extension Educator Brian Mealor is the new Sheridan Research and Extension Center director.

UW Extension Educator Milt Geiger was interviewed by Rocky Mountain PBS about how Wyoming residents are “warming up” to switching to solar energy.
