UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles where UW is making the news.

UW Department of Computer Science Assistant Professor Jeff Clune is part of a research team that has developed robots that adapt to injury, according to The Guardian, an award-winning online news website, The Washington Post and CNBC. Clune and his colleagues’ research was first published in the scientific journal Nature. International publications such as the BBC, International Business Times and South China Morning Post also picked up the story.

Romanian Trends used UW’s release on UW Associate Professor Linda Kidwell, who is studying and teaching on a Fulbright Scholarship in Romania. She participated in a conference titled, “Business Integrity in Romania: Challenges, Good Practices and Perspective.”

UW economist Anne Alexander’s report on possible lost energy jobs in the state was cited in a Wyoming Tribune Eagle story when U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell discussed plans to protect sage grouse habitat during a visit last week in Cheyenne.

In a Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) article, UW’s Harold Bergman and Phil Roberts gave a historical perspective of the top three industry-caused environmental issues in Wyoming’s past and the top three facing the state now. The CS-T also reported on an upcoming UW conference celebrating 125 years of statehood.

More than 100 sites nationally, including the Onida Watchman, cited UW research in an article about the health benefits of chili pepper.

A UW release about projects that will be conducted this summer by the Wyoming Conservation Corps was published by the Riverton Ranger.

Scott Hininger, UW Sheridan County educator, was interviewed on air by Sheridan about trees damaged in the county this past winter.

Sweetwater NOW picked up UW’s release announcing that three graduate students in the Global and Area Studies Program will present the results of their international field work this week in Centennial. The website also noted the opening of new summer exhibitions at the UW Art Museum.

UW’s long-range plan to construct new residence halls was noted in The Wyoming Business Report.

Tri-State Livestock News published UW’s release on Lindsay Zacco, an animal science junior, who rescued a failed racehorse and turned him into a successful hunter-jumper and western trail competitor.

UW Department of Anthropology Professor Emeritus George Frison was profiled in an article in The Billings Gazette.

KGAB Radio broadcast UW’s release about Nicole Waguespack, a UW Department of Anthropology associate professor, who was interviewed for a segment of the five-part PBS documentary “First Peoples.”

Dan McCoy, UW Campus Recreation assistant director, was interviewed by The Bureau of International Information Programs for an article on student outdoor adventure trips.
