State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

UW was named by Engineering News Record Mountain States as its Colorado/Wyoming Area Owner of the Year for 2016, according to an article in the widely read trade magazine. The article highlights recent and current construction projects at UW.

Wyoming Public Media reported that an energy economist said, in a UW forum last week, that the coal industry likely will never recover to previous levels. Trevor Houser, a partner with the Rhodium Group, an investment management and policy research group, spoke during the event at the Energy Innovation Center. The Laramie Boomerang also reported on the forum.

UW is among six colleges that are part of a $9.9 million project grant from NASA, with the University of Tennessee the lead school, according to Aviation Pros. The money will be used for the development of a more aerodynamically capable aircraft.

UW economist Rob Godby was interviewed by The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) about Rocky Mountain Power reducing its utility rates and if the company is following a national trend.

The Des Moines Register quoted UW’s Jonathan Naughton, Wind Energy Research Center director, about the rise of wind energy as a viable resource for power companies.

UW President Laurie Nichols’ op-ed piece on making changes at the university to operate more effectively and efficiently was printed in The CS-T.

The American Pharmacists Association reported that the UW Family Medicine Residency Program and the Health Care for the Homeless Clinic in Casper are partnering in a program that will bring clinical pharmacy services to homeless patients in Wyoming.

UW’s research indicating that excess dietary salt may result in late onset of puberty that can lead to behavioral problems, stress and reduced fertility, was cited in Smart Cooky, a television show in New Delhi, India. The segment was titled “6 Harmful Effects of Excess Salt in Your Daily Diet.”

The Daily Mail in London reported on the research of UW graduate student Brigid Grund, who said that muscle strength helped males gain an advantage when the bow and arrow was the primary hunting method.

Wyoming Public Media plans to base a reporter in Cody to share with the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The reporter will cover topics in the region, while also being a “content producer” for the museum, noted The CS-T.

The Laramie Boomerang noted a three-year water-usage agreement has been reached between the city of Laramie and UW for watering the Jacoby Golf Course for three years.

Daniel Tekiela, UW Extension invasive plant ecology specialist, published a bulletin that looks at bioherbicide cheatgrass control, noted Tri-State Livestock News.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle covered the Wyoming Business Report’s Wyoming Cybersecurity Symposium, where UW’s Mike Borowczak, professor of practice of computer science, was among the speakers.

UW students, faculty members and Laramie community members organized a rally to support the sciences, reported The Wyoming Tribune Eagle. The rally was to show support for science and protest potential funding cuts to national agencies.
