UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

Assistant Professor Jeff French, of UW’s Department of Atmospheric Science, was co-author of a piece on the website The Conversation about his research on the effectiveness of cloud seeding. The Conversation is an independent media outlet that uses content sourced from the academic and research community. The article was picked up by The Weather Network and others.

UW College of Law Professor Michael Duff is quoted in a Bloomberg story about how the National Labor Relations Board is rushing to settle a major workplace action involving McDonald’s Corp.

Assistant Professor Daniel Tekiela, of UW’s Department of Plant Sciences, was quoted in a Townsquare Media story about the impact of invasive species in Wyoming and the West.

UW’s James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center is featured in a story in the Scottsbluff (Neb.) Star-Herald.

KOWB Radio reported that the UW Board of Trustees will vote whether to approve a proposal that would delay changes to in-state and out-of-state tuition, to allow for further study of their impact on the university, during its meeting this week. The Laramie Boomerang also reported on the issue.

A capital construction bill approved by the Wyoming Legislature releases $85 million for UW’s Science Initiative building, the Boomerang reports.

Wyo4News reprinted UW’s release announcing that Student Educational Opportunity and Nontraditional and Gender Programs have secured a grant to provide need-based scholarships for nontraditional students. KGWN TV and Sheridan Media also published the release.

UW Extension hosted its annual Bee College in Cheyenne last weekend, Wyoming Public Media noted.

The Chicago Sun-Times profiled former UW football player Mark Willis, of Oak Park, Ill., who landed an acting role in the world’s No. 1 movie, “Black Panther.”

UW junior guard Justin James and senior forward Hayden Dalton were named All-District 17 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. James was a first-team selection, and Dalton earned second-team honors, reported WyoSports.

The Casper Star-Tribune noted that UW head wrestling Coach Mark Branch has been named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year.
