State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

UW’s launch of a marketing campaign featuring the primary tagline of “The World Needs More Cowboys” received plenty of attention. Among the media outlets were The Laramie Boomerang, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, K2 Radio and U.S. News and World Report. The Wall Street Journal also published an editorial on the topic.

and Casper Star-Tribune wrote editorials in support of UW’s new campaign slogan.

UW Board of Trustees last week approved a number of regulation changes that outline how the university would respond to any future significant reduction in its budget, reported KGAB Radio.

Smithsonian Magazine interviewed UW zoology Assistant Professor Sarah Benson-Amram on how certain animal species are adapting not in an evolutionary sense, but in a behavioral one. She said the secret to these savvy species’ success is “street smarts.”

UW economist Rob Godby was interviewed by Argus Coal Daily to discuss the 21 coal mines that could be at risk of closing in coming decades because the coal-fired power plants they supply will be retired.

Sweetwater Now published a story about UW researchers who are studying microbes in the state as part of a $20 million, five-year National Science Foundation grant. SheridanMedia.com and Wyoming Network News ran UW’s release on the subject.

A UW study that said an endangered species designation of the greater sage-grouse would cost the state almost $23 billion and almost 86,500 energy and agriculture jobs was cited by Christian Science Monitor. UW agricultural economist Tex Taylor’s recent study was commissioned by Gov. Matt Mead.

Bloomberg News discussed with UW law Professor Sam Kalen the regulatory limits history of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Wyoming Business Report and Sheridan Media published UW’s release on the seven latest research projects for which UW faculty will be using the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center in Cheyenne.

UW’s long-range residence hall project should be done with state funding and not as a public-private partnership, according to research completed by the Legislative Service office, reported The Laramie Boomerang.

UW President Laurie Nichols will give opening remarks during the Powell Research Center’s Ag Day, according to High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal.

The Chicago Tribune reported that UW Department of Theatre and Dance Professor Leigh Selting recently directed “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” play at Dunes Summer Theatre in Michigan City, Ind.

WyoSports reported that former UW Cowgirl Liv Roberts is among 500 nominees nationwide for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award. The Mountain West Conference will announce its finalist in early August as to who will represent the league for the award.
