State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW economist Jay Shogren commented about progressive Democrats who are introducing their new Green Deal that Wyoming’s congressional delegation says would hamper the state’s economy, reported The Casper Star-Tribune (The CS-T).

K2 Radio and Outdoor Wire reported that Wyoming’s economy benefited from outdoor recreation with more than $1 billion spent in 2017, according to a UW analysis. UW agricultural economist Tex Taylor conducted the survey. The figure marks a 2.3 percent increase from 2016. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department originally issued the media release.

A bill to construct new residence halls on UW’s north side barely passed in its first reading in the Wyoming Legislature’s House last week, according to The Laramie Boomerang.

The Boomerang added that Rep. Cathy Connolly, a UW professor, amended the bill to add wording that 15th Street would not be closed when the residence halls are constructed.

Funding for UW’s engineering programs came under scrutiny from the Senate as legislators stripped funds from one area to another, despite objections from the university’s administration, The Boomerang reported.

Sheridan Media published UW’s release announcing that the university is among “America’s 100 Best College Buys” for its low cost of attendance and the high caliber of its students. Nearly half of the members of the Black 14 football players were back on the UW campus last week as part of the university’s Black History Month and Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue events, according to The CS-T. KTBS Channel 3 in Shreveport, La., published the article.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle, The CS-T, The Boomerang and KGWN TV were among media reporting on the Black 14 players’ panel discussion at the UW College of Law.

A book chronicling the Black 14 players’ experiences at UW written by Phil White, a former Branding Iron editor, journalist and Laramie attorney, was featured in The CS-T. White’s book is titled “Wyoming in Mid-Century: Prejudice, Protest and the ‘Black 14.’”
