Forbes mentioned that UW received $1.6 billion in payments among the 42 state agencies during a six-year period beginning in 2013. Forbes was among Wyoming partners that had been asking the Wyoming State Auditor’s Office to produce spending records.

A new study by Robin Barry, UW psychology assistant professor, and her colleagues provides insight into the process of how couples are “pulling away,” or growing apart, and how this can contribute both to relationship distress and depression, according to Psychology Today.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that the Wyoming Senate set the stage for spending of more than $300 million for a UW residence hall project.

Tech Xplore reported that UW Assistant Professor Mike Borowczak and his colleagues have developed an algorithm that safeguards hardware from attacks to steal data.

Cloud Peak Energy has yet to release fourth-quarter earnings, leading to speculation among industry leaders that the company is on the brink of bankruptcy, and the silence is leading to more speculation, UW economist Rob Godby said in an interview published by Coal Zoom.com.

Wyoming Public Radio (WPR) interviewed UW economist Jay Shogren about a bill to keep retiring coal plants alive. Shogren said the bill would likely raise electrical rates, basically taking the form of a tax in order to keep coal moving. Northwest Treaty Tribes reported that UW researchers are working with the Makah tribe in Washington state on a three-year study, collecting river otter scat, hair samples and habitat data to learn more about the population in the Lake Ozette watershed and its influence on the lake’s sockeye salmon population.

Jay Norton, a UW ecosystem science and management professor, discussed with WPR how Wyoming farmers can jump into organic farming and how they can market their produce. Those strategies were discussed at the recent High Plains Organic Farming Conference in Cheyenne.

UW will pay up to $1 million to renovate the Tobin House -- a former sorority building -- that will provide housing for 65 students, according to The Boomerang and CS-T. The Division of Student Affairs’ operating funds will be used for the project.
