State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T), Laramie Boomerang and Wyoming Public Radio were among media outlets announcing Chris Boswell, Bill Mai and Neil Theobald as candidates for the acting president’s position at UW. The Houston Chronicle published the Associated Press version of the announcement.

Jane Zelikova, a UW postdoctoral research scientist and co-founder of 500 Women Scientists, spoke with Nature -- the international science journal -- about her involvement in Request a Woman Scientist, a database with 10,000 participants who help boost gender diversity in scientific talks and in the media.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that the UW Board of Trustees will vote this week whether to divert from its standard policy of approving a 4 percent tuition increase for both in-state and out-of-state students.

UW political science Professor Jim King discussed with The CS-T the wide-open field among Wyoming candidates to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi.

The Santa Fe New Mexican published an article that quoted UW Associate Professor Lilia Soto about “Harvest Season,” a new PBS documentary film. The film examines the contributions of Mexican-Americans in the wine industry of California’s Napa Valley. Soto is a native of Napa Valley.

Isadora Helfgott, a UW associate professor of history, was among experts who discussed the prospect of success associated with the “American Dream” in a Sheridan Press feature.

UW Vice President for Research and Economic Development Ed Synakowski said that the appointments of a Manufacturing-Works permanent director and assistant director will soon take place, according to a UW media release published by Sheridan Media.

College Consensus selected UW among the nation’s top 50 “Online Colleges with the Best Return on Investment for 2019,” noting that the university offers “out-of-state and in-state students an opportunity to advance in their career without wasting their money and time.”

UW’s migration research was cited in a CS-T article that focused on Gov. Mark Gordon’s appointment of a citizen group. The group will help energy and conservation interests seeking regulatory certainty around migration corridors in the southwestern quadrant of the state.

WalletHub interviewed Elizabeth Minton, a UW marketing associate professor, who provided answers about credit cards that give bonus rewards on mobile-wallet purchases and, specifically, about credit cards issued by Wells Fargo.

UW zoology and physiology graduate student Katey Huggler was interviewed by Wyoming Public Radio. She is leading a research project to find if predators -- such as coyotes -- are affecting the low population of mule deer near Rock Springs.

The Wyoming Business Council published UW’s release announcing the second WyoHackathon competition later this fall in the new Engineering Education and Research Building.

Personnel from UW’s Ruckelshaus Institute, Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department have scheduled several meetings around the state to provide updates on chronic wasting disease, reported Buckrail, a Jackson-based news website.

Oil City News published UW’s release announcing the 20th Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Conference next week on the UW campus.

The CS-T was among media outlets announcing that longtime UW Cowgirl basketball assistant Coach Gerald Mattinson was promoted to the head position. He replaces Joe Legerski who recently retired after leading the program the past 16 years.

The UW Department of Athletics posted a score of 992 for the 2017-18 academic year in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data -- the highest single-year score in school history. Ten UW programs achieved a perfect 1,000 APR, according to The CS-T.
