State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Cody Enterprise covered the UW-sponsored “The World Needs More Cowboys and So Does Wyoming” campaign. UW representatives visited Cody and Powell high schools, and held a reception for alumni, prospective students and others at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Both The Powell Tribune and The Enterprise also interviewed UW Acting President Neil Theobald.

UW graduate Aura Newlin, a Northwest College instructor, was featured in the latest “The World Needs More Cowboys and So Does Wyoming” marketing campaign in Cody last week. She was featured on Casper’s 95.5 Country radio program.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported that the UW Board of Trustees approved a timeline to hire the next UW president. The target date is early next spring.

The UW Board of Trustees approved a guaranteed maximum price of $74.4 million for the construction of the Science Initiative building on the corner of Lewis and Ninth streets, reported The Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

National Graphene Association, Phys.org and Science Magazine published UW’s release noting that a study shows the ability to globally align single-wall carbon nanotubes along a common axis. UW’s William Rice, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy, led the research.

UW economist Rob Godby commented on a WyoFile article that focused on Senate File 159’s “New Opportunities for Wyoming Coal Fired Generation” bill. The law, enacted earlier this year, requires public utilities that want to retire a coal unit in Wyoming to first make a good-faith effort to sell it to a third-party buyer.

Mirage News reported that UW Assistant Professor Kevin Befus and a colleague received a three-year, $748,865 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to investigate ways to alleviate flooding along coastal lines.

UW Distinguished Research Professor Peter Nathanielsz was among researchers who discovered that maternal obesity speeds up aging in offspring, according to Genetic Obesity News.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that UW officials hope to have a parking garage constructed south of Old Main by the start of the 2021 fall classes.

UW and the town of Laramie were mentioned by MSN as one of the ”35 College Towns You Have to See in the Fall.”

Medical Xpress reported that UW Research Scientist Emma-Jane Alexander is among speakers at Neuroscience 2019. The annual meeting is for the Society for Neuroscience and is the world’s largest source of emerging news about brain science and health.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that UW’s Center of Excellence in Produced Water Management recently received a grant from the Department of Energy to develop technology to clean oilfield produced/by-product water. Water Online published a similar article.

The Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network has received national accreditation for its assistance to Wyoming’s entrepreneurs, noted Big Horn Radio Network. The SBDC’s main office is on the UW campus.

Sheridan Media published UW’s release on how UW Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Johnathon Naughton contributed to an article that posed three challenges to wind energy.

On the 50th anniversary of the dismissal of the Black 14 from the UW football team, Face2Face Africa featured the history of the incident.

Wyoming Public Radio (WPR) and Indianz.com noted that Native American issues were the focus of Law Week on the UW campus last week. Several UW students observed Indigenous People’s Day last week, WPR reported.

UW Associate Professor Kristen Landreville was interviewed by The Jackson Hole News and Guide as part of a preview of UW’s successful Saturday U program featuring three professors discussing timely subjects. The Jackson event was held last weekend.

Laramie Live noted that four UW graduates received the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award during Homecoming activities last week. The UW Alumni Association presented the awards.
