State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) interviewed UW labor law Professor Michael Duff for a story on Eagle Specialty Materials, the company that successfully assumed ownership of the bankrupt Eagle Butte and Belle Ayr mines from Blackjewel. Cameron Wright, an electrical and computer engineering professor, will serve as interim dean of the UW College of Engineering and Applied Science. Lecturer Doug Wachob was appointed interim dean of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, reported The CS-T.

New UW research shows the ability to detect light from ultraviolet to the infrared optical regimes using spin currents, according to UW’s release published by Phys.org. William Rice, an assistant professor in UW’s Department of Physics and Astronomy, led the study.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that an overhaul of Lewis Street between Ninth and 13th streets is expected to cost $6.7 million, according to a request for proposals that UW officials released.

Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, spoke with Sheridan Media about the university’s latest favorable ranking in a national publication. The Wall Street Journal named UW No. 2 on its list of “Is Your College Worth the Cost?” survey among the nation’s land-grant universities just behind MIT.

Wyoming Business Report interviewed Catherine Carrico, associate director of the Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, for an article focusing on Wyoming’s shortage of senior citizens support services.

The Mountain Journal used UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Ruckelshaus Institute as an example for an article detailing how politicians need to have the courage to take media and citizen questions. The newspaper cited the Haub School’s recent series of events focused on the problem of incivility and the need for more respectful behavior in public meetings.
