State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Yahoo News reported that UW is among the 10 “Colleges with Highest-Paid Petroleum Engineering Grads.” Earnings were calculated based on PayScale data, which lists the median starting salary for alumni of these programs with three years of postgraduation work experience and whose highest degree is a bachelor’s.

The latest COVID-19 statewide survey -- conducted by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center at UW -- found an overall drop in support for following measures recommended to slow the spread of the virus, reported The Casper Star-Tribune, Cowboy State Daily, Oil City News and Wyoming News Now.

Route Fifty interviewed UW law Professor George Mocsary on the multiple gun cases rejected by the United States Supreme Court last week.

The UW Board of Trustees recently approved more than $10 million in construction- and property-related contracts, reported The Laramie Boomerang. The board also approved a plan for the construction of a new residence and dining hall.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that UW has not yet received a final commitment from Gov. Mark Gordon that it will receive more than $26 million in coronavirus relief funding. University officials say the funding is needed to reopen on time for the fall semester.

UW personnel are taking part in “Prehistoric Road Trip,” a three-part history series that explores prehistoric life in the western United States. The series premiered last week, according to UW’s release published on KGAB Radio’s website. Wyoming Public Radio published a similar story on its website.

The Billings Gazette reported that UW Professor Holly Ernest led a study of great gray owls in a four-state region, showing that range discontinuity could lead to genetic drift and subsequent loss of genetic diversity in the birds. The Billings Gazette also published UW’s release on a study, led by Ernest, that evaluated genetic outcomes of translocating bighorn sheep in various Wyoming locations.

Zhaojie Zhang, UW’s Microscopy Facility director, came up with a novel solution to get people, especially kids, to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds to help prevent contracting COVID-19. Wyoming Public Radio said Zhang created the clock after watching his daughter wash her hands.

UW’s Snowy Range Summer Theatre will offer a virtual production of “God of Carnage” June 23-27 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Boomerang reported.

Laramie Live and Oil City News published UW’s release announcing that law students Nathan Cowper, from Laramie, and Elizabeth Stephani, from Centennial, Colo., were selected to the editorial board of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy’s 39th annual Federalist Society National Student Symposium Issue.

Wyoming Public Media noted that a new study by the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at UW found that mule deer migration is negatively impacted by global warming-induced droughts.

Five UW men’s golf team members earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars honors for the 2019-2020 season, according to Welcome to 7220. The Cowboys rank one behind Duke and Louisville, which had six honorees apiece.
