UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW will see a budget reduction of $42.3 million, a 10 percent cut mandated by Gov. Mark Gordon, over the next two years, reported The Laramie Boomerang. A subsequent budget reduction plan will be created in the coming months, according to a UW release published by Oil City News. The Associated Press published a similar article.

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) and Cowboy State Daily reported that UW ended its pause on in-person classes last week and resumed its phased fall return plan. The pause of nearly two weeks was prompted by an outbreak of coronavirus cases among the campus community. The Gillette News Record, Wyo4News and Sheridan Media published UW’s release.

A $175,000 grant from the Department of Workforce Services will enable UW’s Innovation Wyrkshop to set up mini-makerspaces around the state that will focus on providing opportunities for young adults with disabilities, reported Wyoming Public Radio.

Oil City News published UW’s release noting that next month’s Homecoming will feature some virtual events, and some traditional in-person activities have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new publication from UW Extension analyzes the key components of employment change over 17 years for Wyoming, each of its counties and the Rocky Mountain region. County 10 published the report from “Evaluating Key Components of Employment Change.”

The CS-T reported that UW is doing everything possible to end the postponement of football and other fall sports, according to President Ed Seidel.
