Sydney Horwitz

Grand Champion Polo Club

Sydney and Horses

Sydney Horwitz graduated in 2010 with a degree in Animal Science she is currently working as the Director of Kids Polo and Other Services for Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, FL. “Grand Champions Polo Club was started seven years ago and is the nation’s fastest growing polo club, already hosting the most diverse array of tournaments throughout the year.”  (grandchampionspoloclub.org, history)  Sydney is from Carbondale, Colorado. She currently spends winters in Wellington and summers at a barn owned by the polo club in Colorado.

Sydney attended the University with the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship program. She was also a member of the Rodeo Team for her first two years attending UW.  She credits Animal Science Classes, specifically taught by Dr. Ludden and Dr. O’Toole, as being both the most memorable and most challenging parts of her time at the University of Wyoming.  She stated “those classes were some of the hardest classes I ever took but I learned so much and it stuck with me!”

In advise for current students Sydney suggests to “open up and connect with others in your class” by working in study groups.  She elaborates that “Everyone has different ways of explaining things you may not understand in the class and when you have the chance to help others and explain things to them, it really solidifies the information in your brain. Also, it is so much more fun to study in a group.”

She stated “I absolutely loved my time and experience at UW.  I think that my education from UW affects my everyday life.  Animals are everywhere from the horses I work with and the cows out in the pasture to the grocery store and the dinner table.  There is’t a place I go or a decision I make where my education from UW hasn’t played a role.”
