College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Wade Allnutt

Rancher

wade allnutt

Given the College the Agriculture and Natural Resources is an Agriculture college it is natural to assume that many students come from an agricultural background. One of these students is Wade Allnutt.  Wade grew up ranching in Walden, Colorado, post-graduation he has returned to Walden and is working as a rancher with his father. He maintains his herd of beef cattle as well as working with neighbors, helping to put up their hay and take care of their herd of yearlings.

Wade graduated from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the Spring of 2013 with a degree in Agriculture Business with the option of Farm and Ranch Management. He also received a minor in Animal Science.

While attending The University of Wyoming, Wade was involved in the Meat Judging Team in 2010, he was an Ag. Ambassador, and was involved in the Food Science Club. In addition, Wade was the recipient of several Brand of Excellence Scholarships throughout his time at the University.

Wade noted that the agricultural orientation that Laramie and the University of Wyoming foster have helped him to be successful both in college and after graduation.  One of the places he found this Agriculture orientation helpful was during the time he worked in the Meat Lab. He stated “I did have a lot of fun teaching the slaughter class with Warrie [Means] and Kelsey Christensen.”  He also noted several additional professors that not only were a strong influence for him while in school but also once he had graduated.

When giving advice to current students, Wade encouraged them to “Take your Time.” Working on general credits while figuring out what you really want to major in is a good idea.  He advised “Don’t worry about changing your major if you think you want to. Be involved in all sorts of activities, you get to meet lots of people and see neat things. In my opinion, if someone says they didn’t like college then they didn’t try to have a good experience.”
