Melinda Sims

Melinda Sims graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2000 with a degree in Animal Science, focusing on production. While at UW she met and married her husband, Shanon, and after college they moved to Shanon’s family ranch, Sims Cattle Company, in McFadden, Wyoming. They have two children, a son, Kagan, who is in his first year at UW also studying Animal Science, and daughter, Jentry, who is a sophomore in high school. The kids are the fifth generation on the ranch.

Throughout her 22 years on the ranch, Melinda has become very involved in every aspect of the ranch, from daily management of animals and land to long term planning and business management. She and Shanon were named as one of 2019 America’s Best Young Farmers and Ranchers by DTN Progressive Farmer and have been featured in several magazines and articles. Melinda has served on numerous committees to help further Agriculture’s story, including serving as the first woman President of the Albany County Stockgrowers, as the Chairperson of the Wyoming Stockgrowers Agricultural Promotion, Education, and Enhancement committee and as Chairperson of the Wyoming Stockgrowers Environmental Stewardship Award Committee. She is currently contracting with Dallas Mount and Ranch Management Consultants, learning to be an instructor for the Ranching for Profit Schools.
