(Agropyron repens (L.) Beauv.)

GROWTH HABIT: Erect perennial grass, reproducing from seed and creeping rhizomes.

LEAVES: Auricles present: blade soft, flat, may be covered with soft hair. Ligule 0.5mm long. Small leaf constriction often present near the point of the leaf.

STEMS: Culms 1 to 3 ft. Tall, erect, smooth.

ROOTS: Rhizomes yellowish-white, sharp-pointed, rooting at nodes only.

INFLORESCENCES: A spike up to 10 inches long, composed of two rows of spikelets born flat- wise to the stem.

SEEDS: Contained in spikelets, awnless or with short straight awns.

OTHER: Roots can penetrate hard soils, tubers, and roots of other plants.
