IMPROVING WOOL COLOR THROUGH SELECTIVE BREEDING USING YELLOWING PROPENSITY MEASUREMENTS

(WYO-406-06)

Clean wool color is of importance to the wool industry. Discolored or especially yellow wool's cannot for example be used in pastel shade apparel. Any reduction in yellowness would potentially improve the acceptability of the wool to processors and thus increase the price received by the producer. Using yellowing propensity data, it should be possible in the selection of flock replacement to reduce fleece yellowing at shearing.
