UW Receives Report of Sexual Assault

October 1, 2016 -- (Note: The university is providing this information pursuant to disclosure requirements of the Federal Clery Act.)

The University of Wyoming Police Department received noticed of a sexual assault early this morning in a UW apartment.  The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, whom the complainant met through a social media application.  The suspect has not been identified, and the report is under investigation by the Laramie Police Department and UWPD. 

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the LPD (307) 721-2526 or UWPD (307) 766-5179. 

As a safety precaution, it is recommended that students use caution when meeting someone for the first time, preferably in a public location.  Inform friends or family of that location and your plans.  If there is any suspicious behavior, you are encouraged to immediately call the UWPD. 

The UWPD urges anyone who believes they or a friend have been the victim of a sexual assault or other crimes, to immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.  UWPD may be reached at (307) 766-5179 or text keyword UWYO to 847411/TIP411.  The Laramie Police Department may be reached at (307) 721-2526.
