About the Chief


Chief Lane

After 4 years in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Military Police Team Leader in Operation Desert Storm, Troy Lane began his civilian law enforcement career as a Police Officer with the Salina, Kansas Police Department in 1991. In 1996 Troy moved to the Kansas State University Police Department. While there, Troy worked in all facets of the department, as a Patrolman, Patrol Supervisor (Sergeant), Investigator, Support Services Commander (Captain), and finally as the Assistant Chief, in charge of day-to-day operations of the department. In May of 2007 Troy was selected as the Chief of Police for the University of Wyoming Police Department.

Troy holds a Bachelors degree in Management and Ethics and a Masters in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the 212th Session of the FBI National Academy, FBI Central States Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS), and numerous other specialty schools. Troy currently holds instructor certification in Police Ethics, Firearms, Less Lethal Force,  the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System (NIMS/ICS), and the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). Troy has also taught Criminal Justice courses for the University of Wyoming, Upper Iowa University, and Fort Hays State University.

Troy is currently the 3rd Vice President of the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police where he serves on the Legislative Liaison and Amber Alert committees. In 2010 Troy was appointed by Governor Dave Freudenthal to serve as a Commissioner on the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST), and in 2011 he was appointed by Governor Matt Mead to the Wyoming Court Security Commission. Troy is an active member of the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police (WASCOP), Wyoming Peace Officers Association (WPOA), FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA), FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI LEEDA), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).
