Service-Learning Resources at UWService-Learning is a credit-based educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs. Students reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation for the discipline, and come away with an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.When students take a service-learning class at UW, they have community service requirements in addition to academic requirements. UW offers service-learning courses in Engineering, Health Sciences, Counselor Education, American Studies, and many more.For Students:A number of classes are offered each semester that incorporate service-learning into course work. Please contact the CVS for more information about service-learning at UW by emailing cvs@uwyo.edu. Examples of past service-learning classes include: Social Work students traveling to New Orleans to assist hurricane victims, a social justice class applying concepts learned to the Lincoln Community Center, and an engineering classes investigating possible uses for the historic Fox Theater in downtown Laramie. For Faculty:The Center for Volunteer Service's goal is to promote volunteerism as a path towards greater civic engagement among its students.
