Larry Shyatt, who coached the University of Wyoming men's basketball team for the 1997-98 season, was announced as the new men's head basketball coach after eight years as an assistant at the University of Florida. Shyatt replaces Heath Schroyer, and says he's excited for a return to Laramie.
In his one year as head coach at UW, Shyatt helped the Cowboys improve from 12-16 in the 1996-97 season to 19-9 with a berth in the National Invitation Tournament.
"This is a special place and has a special meaning for our family. That's what makes it exciting for us right now," Shyatt says.
