A
90-member ensemble playing the finest in orchestral repertoire, the
University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra (UWSO) features soloists ranging from internationally
acclaimed guest artists to faculty performers to student competition
winners.
In addition to its annual schedule of performances in Laramie, the UWSO tours throughout the Rocky Mountain region, drawing large and appreciative audiences at every stop and helping to advance the university’s efforts to promote music and culture.
The UWSO has traveled internationally, too. With tremendous support from the UW Office of the President, the ensemble embarked, in 2007, on a weeklong tour of Bolivia, with concerts ranging from Centro Sinfonico in La Paz to village churches and plazas.
The orchestra is led by Michael Griffith, in his 23rd year as conductor.
The UWSO receives generous support from the Symphony Association for the University of Wyoming, the UW administration, the UW Foundation, private donors, and, on tour, host communities, the Wyoming Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
