In 1988 WyoSAA, the student alumni association, initiated and sponsored the UW Alumni Association/Wyoming Student Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Award. Now, selecting the award-winning faculty member is the job of WYO-gold. This award, voted on by graduating seniors, is for the faculty member who had the greatest influence on them during their years at UW and in preparing them for a career after college.
Mark Lyford, a College of Arts and Sciences lecturer who teaches courses such as Discovering Biology (LIFE 1002) and Current Issues in Biology (LIFE 1003) is the 2015 recipient. According to nominating students Raleah Cisneros and Ashley Golden, “Professor Lyford is one of the best professors we have ever had. His enthusiasm for the course and his students is unmatched; he is able to teach a science course in a way that is interesting and engaging, allowing for students who may not traditionally love science to truly understand the material. His passion for teaching shows through every single day and is greatly appreciated.”
