Fall Into a Good Habit With UW

Growing up in Laramie, my family and I always looked forward to being on the UW campus to enjoy the many activities on beautiful fall days. Now 20-plus years later, I am sure you share the same excitement as I do to return to Laramie for what is shaping up to be a remarkable football season. I don’t remember a year when the enthusiasm and national recognition for our football team and a quarterback like Josh Allen have been so high. With seven home football games this season, expect Laramie and the University of Wyoming and the games to be buzzing a little more than most years.

Whether you visit the campus regularly, have not visited campus in quite a while, or were last on campus as a student, there is no better time to return to campus than now. We invite you back to Laramie to enjoy the beautiful fall season, cheer on the Pokes athletics teams and visit some of the special attractions on campus.

The UWAA builds community by bringing alumni together who share their passion for the brown and gold at special events on campus. We will be here this fall to welcome you at multiple events we are hosting for you to connect with other Cowboys and Cowgirls. Three hours prior to each home football game, the Alumni Association, in conjunction with the UW Foundation and athletics, will host the Pokes Pre-Game Pep Rally at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, 222 S. 22nd St. Get fired up celebrating with Western Thunder Marching Band, hear from Coach Bohl and cheer on the players on the Cowboy Walk to the stadium.

Prior to the Cowboys taking on the Pac-12 powerhouse Oregon Ducks, we will host UWAA members for the 2017 Membership Appreciation Day Saturday, Sept. 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Gateway Center. Members are invited to come and join us for a buffet lunch and cash bar with NCAA football on the big screens. Register by Sept. 12 at http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/uwaa17. Refer to the ad on page 61 for more details.

Finally, we invite you to return to Laramie for the 93rd University of Wyoming Homecoming set for Oct. 21-28 with the theme “Wyoming Spirit, Wild as the West.” The UW Alumni Association will honor the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Recipients Thursday, Oct. 26, host the 50th Club Reunion on Friday, Oct. 27, and the Homecoming Parade and the All Alumni and Friends Reunion prior to the Cowboys vs. New Mexico Football Game Saturday, Oct. 28. In addition, UW alumni can stop by the Gateway Center Friday, Oct. 27 or Saturday, Oct. 28 to receive a discount coupon to the University Store based on graduation year. For more information about Homecoming 2017, see the ad on page 60, and please visit uwyo.edu/homecoming. Remember, Homecoming is about YOU! Homecoming is a reunion when you get to reconnect with your past and share the experiences and bonds that belong to those of us who call ourselves Cowboys and Cowgirls.

As a 1976 graduate and incoming board member, Dean Henzlik shared the following while honoring his son at a 2011 graduation party. “The University of Wyoming is a great place to be and a great place to come home to.” We welcome you back to campus and invite you to stop by the Gateway Center to say “Hello.” We want to hear and share your memories of your time at the University of Wyoming. We hope to see you soon.

My best in Brown and Gold,

Tim Wilson, B.S. ’98

UWAA President
