Planting Our Colors

At the September 2017 meeting, the UW Alumni Association board approved Planting Our Colors: University of Wyoming Alumni Association Strategic Plan 2017–22. The plan provides a blueprint for our future work and includes goals and strategies to ensure the association is positioned to best support UW in accomplishing the goals defined in its strategic plan, titled Breaking Through: 2017–2022: A Strategic Plan for the University of Wyoming. The plan affirms our commitment to preserve and celebrate the traditions and heritage of the university by promoting loyalty and pride in the brown and gold.

We appreciate the efforts of our board, staff, UW administration, UW partners and alumni who participated in the process.

Our vision is to be an essential UW partner, leading and inspiring alumni and friends to stay connected to UW for life. To accomplish this vision, the broad goals and objectives of the UWAA 2017–22 strategic plan are to address:

Engagement—Educate, engage and mobilize alumni and friends to be advocates and ambassadors to advance a lifelong relationship with UW.

Communication—Be the catalyst for two-way communication with our UW community to support UW aspirations.

Students—Enrich the student experience, cultivating a lifelong connection with the UWAA and UW.

Resources and Infrastructure—Secure fiscal and human resources to ensure high-performing programs and services to meet the growing needs of the university and the UW community.

Each goal and objective includes a set of measurable performance indicators. The UWAA 2017–22 strategic plan may be viewed online at uwyo.edu/alumni.

Specifically, the plan calls for expanding alumni networks; strengthening alumni outreach activities; upgrading communication technology, with increased focus on social media interaction; recruiting and expanding a pool of volunteers to support student recruitment; promoting career networking opportunities; implementing management, funding, reporting and outreach systems to ensure they support infrastructure; and outreach to expand our connection with alumni and friends over the next five years.

Implementation of the plan has begun. The key to achieving our goals is to harness the energy of a supportive alumni base whose passion for this institution is unmatched and convert it into advocacy for the university. Therefore, I encourage you to stay connected to the university and get involved. The benefit for you is that you will be joining thousands of former students in making UW stronger and lifting the university to unprecedented levels of excellence in the future.

My best in brown and gold,

Keener Fry, Executive Director
