Nobody Can Do Everything, but Everyone Can Do Something

Since March 26, 1895, the University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) has had a proud and long history of keeping alumni connected to the university and offering a wide array of opportunities for service. We continue to engage alumni, friends and students in programming and volunteer initiatives to help advance the mission of the UWAA and the university.

Simply put, this past year cowboys and cowgirls have become champions, ambassadors and advocates for the university by these actions:

  • Approximately 300 alumni have committed to service as Cowboy 2 Cowboy informational interview mentors for current UW students (this will double the number of students participating by June 30).
  • Social media and UWAA website traffic has increased 50 percent since 2016–17.

Thousands of alumni and friends have attended nearly 100 events hosted by the UWAA, our alumni networks and our UW partners in Laramie and across the country.

  • Alumni volunteer participation has grown significantly across the university, demonstrating alumni passion and commitment to UW.

Where is this energy coming from?

  • President Nichols has provided leadership by charting a powerful vision for the university highlighting the value of the UW academic experience.
  • The past two years our athletic teams have had unprecedented success, bringing remarkable national media coverage and exposure reaching thousands of alumni across the globe.
  • Alumni are searching for unique opportunities to give back to their alma mater in more ways than writing a check or making a pledge—they want to reinvest their education to future and current students striving for the same experiences and benefits a UW education provides them.

Truly remarkable are the 300 alumni volunteers who have written letters to over 4,000 prospective students to the university, sharing their UW experience and encouraging them to enroll in UW. This is the second year the UWAA and alumni volunteers have been a part of this admitted-student project. Last year, our first participating in the program, UW saw a higher percentage of prospective incoming students committed to the university than those who weren’t contacted. This led to one of the largest incoming freshman classes in UW history.

All in all, there is confidence among our alumni in a bright future for UW, and they want to play a role in that future success.

The UWAA cannot successfully do our work without you, our alumni. If you want to become more involved with UW and make a difference, I encourage you to complete the interest form at uwyo.edu/alumni/networks-and-chapters, and a UWAA representative will connect with you soon.

Sincerely,

Tim Wilson (B.S. ’98)

UWAA Board President & Life Member
