The Homecoming parade took place Oct. 20 with 85 entries participating.

Homecoming week at UW was  Oct. 13–20, 2018, with the theme  “The World Needs More Cowboys.” The Big Event, a community service day presented by the Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) Office, kicked off Homecoming. The week included a variety of activities for students, alumni and friends. Student activities ranged from the Homecoming student dinner and pep rally followed by the Homecoming Sing and the car push. Alumni and friends activities ranged from department open houses and receptions to tailgates. Those who pre-registered for Homecoming received a UW Alumni Association (UWAA) Homecoming T-shirt, with proceeds going to the UWAA scholarship program. During registration, alumni could also take advantage of the University Store discount coupon based on graduation year. The 2018 Golden Boot Competition campus winner was Parking and Transit Services, and the Laramie business winner was UniWyo Federal Credit Union. The competition invited any UW department or Laramie business to decorate its office based on the current year’s Homecoming theme.

The 2018 Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to the Honorable Marilyn Kite (B.A. ’70, J.D. ’74), Maj. Gen. Susan L. Pamerleau, USAF (Ret.) (B.A. ’68) and Dr. John Pieper (B.S.P. ’77). The Medallion Service Award was presented to Mary Ellbogen Garland (B.S. ’84, honorary degree, ’09). These individuals were honored at the UW Distinguished Alumni dinner, participated in activities with their colleges, took part in the parade and were announced at the football game. The 50th Club Reunion was hosted by the UWAA and honored the class of 1968 and those who graduated prior.

There were 85 entries in the parade, and the overall parade winner was the Western Thunder Marching Band and Spirit Squad. The UWAA and UW Foundation held Cowboy Coffee at the Alumni and Friends Reunion prior to the football game. The title sponsor of that event was First Interstate Bank. The Pokes Pre-Game Pep Rally before the game featured remarks from Coach Bohl, the Cowboy Walk, the Western Thunder Marching Band and the Spirit Squad. The Homecoming football game pitted the Cowboys against the Utah State Aggies. The Cowboys fell to the Aggies 24–16.

Thank you to the Homecoming committee for helping to create a memorable week at UW. Thank you as well to our Homecoming sponsor, UniWyo Federal Credit Union.
