Cowboys split a home and home series with Colorado State and picked up a Sunday morning game with Creighton University
November 4, 2013 – The UW Hockey club shared a home and home series with Colorado State University and a Sunday morning game with Creighton University this past weekend.
Wyoming suffered a 5-1 loss to the CSU Rams Friday night in Ft. Collins, Colo. The Cowboys fought hard all game but was unable to get a lucky bounce. Wyoming had a rough night with the Officials for the game, taking too many penalties which only helped CSU run away with the win.
The Cowboys hosted the Rams Saturday night in Laramie and took full advantage of being on home ice. Wyoming recorded their biggest win of the season by a score of 4-3. The score doesn’t seem like a big win, but the fact that CSU was ranked #1 in the Pacific region indicates a big win. The game was tied all three periods until late in the 3rd period where Freshmen Ben Bates (Jackson, Wyo.) put away the game winning goal for the Cowboys. Sam Dielwart (Calgary, Alberta) had two goals for the Cowboys and Cody Quintal (Cheyenne, Wyo.) also netted a goal for the Pokes.
Sunday morning was a big test for the Cowboys coming off that huge win over CSU the night before. Although it was a very sluggish start to the game against Creighton, Wyoming walked away with a 9-4 victory. Sophomore Daniel Everitt (Cheyenne, Wyo.) had his best game of the season, scoring two goals and picking up two assists. That puts Everitt at 6 points in the 6 games he has played so far this season. Allen Morton (Casper, Wyo.), Roland Valadez (Longmont, Colo.), Clayton Haworth (Calgary, Alberta), Beau Jackson (Sundre, Alberta), Tyson Loundagin (Casper, Wyo.), Levi Shyack (Sheridan, Wyo.), and Tyson Hertz (Duchess, Alberta) contributed goals for Wyoming.
The Cowboys (5-3) will share a home and home series with Metropolitan State University (6-4) this coming weekend. Friday night’s game will be in Laramie, Wyo. at 8:00pm and Saturday night will be in Denver, Colo. starting at 9:45pm.
