Updated Page Not Appearing on Website-Clearing a Browser Cache


  • A common problem reported to userhelp@uwyo.edu is from authors who have published a page, but that page doesn't appear updated on the live website.
    • Most of the time, the page has actually published but the browser is reloading the old page from its cache on the author's computer. Browsers are designed to look to the cache first in displaying a page for speedy display. There are some steps you can follow to find out if the browser cache needs to be cleared so the updated page shows or if the page actually hasn't been published.
  • The first thing to check is whether the page was published or not.
    • Any page must be set to publish. If it isn't, a message will appear in Cascade stating that the page cannot be published. One way to verify if a page has published is to check your messages. You can find your Cascade messages by clicking on the Home button. A right window will appear. This is the default view when an author first logs into their Cascade website.
  • Check your messages. If there was a problem publishing the page or file, the message will state there has been an error.

  • If there is no error message, then the page has published and your browser is not displaying the updated page. If you have another browser installed on your computer, open it and navigate to the updated page. If you only use one browser, refresh the page. This can be done by selecting the refresh icon in the browser URL window or by selecting. If the page still doesn't refresh, press the F5 key on your keyboard.
  • Another way to verify if a page has not been published is to use a different browser. If an author has more than one browser on a computer, open the other browser and view the page. The second browser doesn't have the cache of the recently updated page so should show the page if there wasn't a publishing error reported.
