How to Create a New Folder, Name a Folder, Index and Title a Folder

  • Folder system names will be part of the web page URL. The folder title will appear as the link name in the navigation bar.  The default webpage within a folder will need to be named ‘index’ when creating a new page; otherwise it won’t work.

Create a new folder

  • Under New on the blue menu bar select Default > select Folder. Then select Edit and provide a System Name.

  • If the "Include when indexing" checkbox is selected, the folder will show in the navigation section on the web page

  • Folder names should be all lower case, no spaces between words (use dash). Spaces before or after a name will break the folder URL and result in a browser error message when accessed by a visitor.
  • Select the ParentFolder.
  • Leave the metadata set to Default.

  • Click on the Metadata tab and give the folder a title. This will be the text that shows up in the navigation section.

  • When creating the _files folder, deselect the 'Include when Indexing’.
  • *Important* Folders need to have an index page if the left column link is to work. If a folder is not to be indexed, like the _files folder, it does not need to have an index page.
