System name: The name of your asset as the system refers to it and what will be displayed in the URL or web address. For example the system name teaching-and-research for a folder may create a URL similar to http://www.uwyo.edu/yoursite/teaching-and-research/.
Reader friendly name: The text that displays in navigation elements on your page that represents assets with a different system name, i.e. Teaching and Research having the system name of teaching-and-research.
The default web page within a folder will need to be named index when creating a new folder otherwise the navigation will not work.
Under Add Content on the top menu bar select Default then select Folder.
Then under the Metadata tab, provide a title using a reader friendly name that will appear in your left hand navigation and bread crumbs. At folder creation time, when you click submit, the system will convert your reader friendly name to an appropriate system name for the folder as well.
Make sure to click on the check mark in the blue box to submit your changes.
Now you will see your folder's reader friendly name and the system name automatically set.
If the "Include when indexing" checkbox is selected (within the Properties tab), the folder will show in the left hand navigation section on the web page as well as in the breadcrumbs.
Always ensure an asset's system name, including folder names, is all lower case and does not contain spaces between words (use a dash).
Spaces in an asset name will result in a %20 being added to your URL or web address, making URLs difficult to read on screen and in printed materials.
