How to build a new site in the CMS

The first step will be to complete the Web Content Management System -Level 1 course. You will not be granted access to the CMS or your site until you have completed this course. The course is free and you can register via the link above.

Once this has been completed and you have access to the CMS, here are the steps for setting up your site:

  1. Assuming all that you have in your newly created site is the base folder, you will need to create your home page. Start by selecting New > Default > Page as seen below:
    How to create new page
  2. Select the System tab and enter index as the system name for your page. The first page in any folder you create will need to be named index for the site to work correctly. Make sure that the base folder is the parent folder, it should appear as [/], as seen below:

Click the search link next to Content Type. Select browse. In the pop-up window, select from the drop down menu at the top. Select the appropriate landing page template. For appropriate landing page, please refer to our Web Site Style Guide.

  3. In the Display Name field, enter the name of your site, followed by the pipe key which creates this symbol | , followed by University of Wyoming. It would also be appropriate to type: Your Site Name | Your College or Division | University of Wyoming. The | symbol can be typed by holding shift and typing the \ key, found right above the enter/return key. In the Title field, simply type the name of your site. It should appear as below.

  4. To add content to your home page, select the Edit tab. In the Section Title section, enter your page name in the Large Title field. You may also add your College or Division in the Small Title field, as seen below:

  5. Enter the text that you want on your page in the after selecting module layout-content type>>1 column row field as seen below:
    module layout selection

  6. Click Submit. Your home page has now been created.
  7. Your site should now look like this:

  8. To learn how to use additional features available in the CMS and build out the rest of your site, see additional How-To's or the training manuals you received in your Web Content Management System -Level 1 course.
