Publishing Your Site

Anytime you make changes to your site in the CMS you will have to publish them before the changes are made on the web.

CMS Update Allows Individual Site Publishing

In the updated version of the CMS activated in June 2012, the publishing process has changed slightly to allow each site to utilize its own publishing queue. What does that mean for you? Faster publishing, and no more waiting for sites ahead of you in the queue to finish publishing before yours gets started.

Publishing Your Site to the Development Server

It is always a good idea to test any changes you have made to your site in the development server prior to publishing on the web. To publish to this server for testing purposes follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the site, folder, page and/or files that you're publishing have had all changes submitted.
  2. Select the Publish tab.
  3. Under the Destination section, select ONLY the box next to DESTINATION-WEBDEV-YOUR-SITE-NAME as seen below:

  4. Click Submit. You can track the progress of the publishing process by selecting the Cascade Icon in the top left of the screen, followed by Publisher, then Active Jobs as seen below:

    You should see a page like this:

    You should see the name of the site/folder/page/file you're trying to publish somewhere on the left, either under Current Job or Queued Jobs. Once your submission has reached the Current Job space and disappeared it has been successfully published to the development server.
  5. To check your site on the development server from an on-campus computer simply type webdev followed by your uwyo.edu url into your browser. For example, this site available online at www.uwyo.edu/cmshelp/how-tos/publish.html, but when changes are being tested on the development server they're viewed at webdev.uwyo.edu/cmshelp/how-tos/publish.html.
    To check your site on the development server from an off-campus computer you will have to login through the UW Secure Portal then follow the instructions above.

Publishing Your Site to the Web

  1. First test the changes you've made on the development server as seen above.
  2. Select the site, folder, page, or file that you're publishing.
  3. Select the Publish tab.
  4. Under the Destination section, select the boxes next to DESTINATION-WWW-YOUR-SITE-NAME and DESTINATION-WEBDEV-YOUR-SITE-NAME as seen below:

  5. Click Submit. For instructions on how to track the progress of your site through the publishing process see Step 4 in the Publishing Your Site to the Development Server section above. Once your site has been published, load it in your browser to ensure that it was published correctly.
