Medicaid Waiver Services

UW ECHO in Medicaid Waiver Services is a network of state-wide professionals providing services to Medicaid Waiver participants. This network provides a community for professional development and the sharing of best practices.

Participants include Medicaid waiver service providers, prescribers, case managers, participant support specialists, and direct service providers working with participants in:

  • Community Choices
  • Children's Mental Health
  • Comprehensive and Supports Waivers

UW ECHO in Medicaid Waiver Services is a collaboration
with the Wyoming Department of Health and WYHealth.

Sessions are on Wednesdays, weekly, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
via Zoom video conferencing technology.

How to EARN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDIT

There are two ways to earn professional development credit
with the Medicaid Waiver Services Network:

  • Attend the live Medicaid Waiver Services sessions. You will need a computer and internet connection to participate in the live sessions. You will also need to download the free software for Zoom Video conferencing onto your computer. 
  • Complete any of the online mini-courses. There are course titles for each available mini-course. Select the titles to read more and enroll. The mini-courses contain the content presented in the live sessions and are published approximately 2 weeks after their conclusion.

This session will discuss how Medicaid waiver service providers and case managers can work with primary care providers to ensure better outcomes for waiver service participants.

Dual Diagnosis - Part 1
This session will define dual diagnosis, will review the prevalence of mental health disorders among people with intellectual disability, and will identify mental health disorders associated with various genetic syndromes.

Dual Diagnosis - Part 2
This session will identify barriers to diagnosing mental health conditions, identify tools used to diagnose mental health disorders, and describe the causes and functions of challenging behavior.

Dual Diagnosis - Part 3
This session will identify barriers to treating mental health disorders, effectiveness of psychological interventions for dual diagnosis, and effectiveness of pharmacological interventions for dual diagnosis.

Strengthen Families Protective Factor: A Comprehensive Look at Family Engagement
This will be a brief introduction to the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework that empowers individuals to take a different approach on how to work with families in our programs. The five Protective Factors will be briefly discussed as a tool for change.

This session is to facilitate and understand the required team meetings and their intended purpose for individuals receiving services on the Developmental Disability Waivers.

How Telehealth Simplifies Access to Healthcare
This session will help participants understand basic telehealth definitions and concepts, demonstrate how telehealth can provide easier access to healthcare professionals. Participants will also be able to teach waiver participants how to join a telehealth encounter with a medical provider.
