WIND Courses Offered

WIND offers a comprehensive trainee program and several courses to improve and enrich the program of study for both undergraduate and graduate students. Descriptions of the courses WIND currently offers are listed below.

WIND 2100 Introduction to Disability Studies (CH) (D) 3 credits
Provides students with an overview of the disability studies field. Students gain introductory knowledge about the disability studies perspective by examining the work of scholars from many academic backgrounds, which will facilitate students’ understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of disability studies. Prerequisites: none.

WIND 2500 Topics in:_____. 1-3 credits (Max. 6)
Provides students with the opportunity to gain introductory knowledge by examining various topics in the field of Disability Studies.  Prerequisites:  Consent of instructor.

WIND 2700 Women with Disabilities (D) 3 credits
Provides an introductory examination of the interplay between issues, challenges, and strengths of the experience of women with disabilities. Current research and theories from disabilities studies and women’s studies will serve as lenses for this examination of disability as a social construct. Cross listed with WMST 2700. Prerequisites: none.

WIND 3160 Disability Civil Rights Movements 3 credits
Provides a review and analysis of the various disability rights movements in the US and the social changes that have resulted from these movements. This includes the early roots following the French Revolution through the protest era of the 1960s to present efforts to change federal policy. Prerequisites: past or concurrent enrollment in SOC 1000 or WIND 2100.

WIND 4020 Disabilities Supports and Services 3 credits
Explores disability issues and related policies and service delivery systems. Issues explored in light of social values, ethics, and social and economic justice. Issues of diversity within disabilities services and supports considered throughout. Cross listed with SOWK 4020. Dual listed with WIND 5020. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

WIND 4500 Practicum 3 credits
Provides students practical experience in the field of Disability. Typically taken during a student’s final semester in the Disability Studies Minor. Prerequisites: WIND 4020 or concurrent enrollment.

WIND 4990 Topics in:_____. 1-3 credits (Max. 12)
Provides upper division/graduate students with the opportunity for critical analysis and in-depth examination of various topics in the field of Disability Studies.  Prerequisites:  Junior standing and consent of instructor.

WIND 5020. Disabilities Support. 3.
Explores disability issues and related policies and service delivery systems. Issues explored in light of social values, ethics and social and economic justice. Issues of diversity within disabilities services and supports considered throughout. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor, dual listed with WIND 4020.

WIND 5100 Topics in:_____. 1-3 credits (Max. 12)
Provides upper division/graduate students with the opportunity for critical analysis and in-depth examination of various topics in the field of Disability Studies.  Prerequisites:  upper division/graduate standing.

WIND 5990 Grad School Internship 1-12 credits (Max. 24)
