Courses Offered
WIND offers a comprehensive trainee program and several courses to improve and enrich the program of study for both undergraduate and graduate students. Descriptions of the courses WIND currently offers are listed below. WIND 4020/5020 - Disabilities: Supports and ServicesThis course explores disability issues and related policies and service delivery systems. Issues explored in light of social values, ethics, and social and economic justice. Issues of diversity within disabilities services and supports considered throughout. Issues of diversity within disabilities services considered throughout. Disabilities will be examined from an interdisciplinary perspective. The course will include lecture, discussion, group activities, multimedia components and guest speakers. Guest speakers will share their experiences regarding disabilities with students. WIND 4990/5990 - Topics inProvides upper division/graduate students with the opportunity for critical analysis and in-depth examination of various topics in the field of Disability Studies. It will address the unique aspects and current research concerning persons with developmental and other disabilities. The course framework will be structured by an interdisciplinary approach, which examines the topic from multiple perspectives. Topics covered will include: political and historical contexts, demographic and philosophical considerations, health, social and legal issues, lifespan development with a disability perspective and coordination of services. WIND/WMST 2700 - Women with Disabilities (D)This course will provide an introductory examination of the interplay between issues, challenges and strengths of the experience of women with disabilities. Current research and theories from Disabilities Studies and Women Studies will serve as lenses for this investigation of disability as a social construct. WIND 2500 - Topics inProvides students the opportunity to gain introductory knowledge by examining various topics in the field of Disability Studies. It will offer an introductory examination of current events and research concerning people with disabilities. The course framework will be structured by an interdisciplinary approach, which examines the topic from multiple perspectives.
