Information For Screeners

Vision Screening Testing  

The screening tests a screener uses depends of the age of the child. It is important that the individual performing vision screening be trained to provide these vision screening tests. Please contact the Wyoming Vision Collaborative to sign up for training to provide these screening tests.

Screening Tests for children birth-12 months*

Screening Tests for children ages 1 and 2 years*

  • Instrument-based device such as: Plus Optix, Spot, Suresight 
    • Can be used beginning at 12 months, but there is better success at 18 months 

Screening Tests for children 3, 4, and 5 years old (36 months to less than 72 months)**

  • Visual Acuity Testing:

    • Vision in Preschoolers (VIP) Single crowded LEA Symbols Visual Acuity Screening test at 5 feet

 

  • Stereopsis Testing:

    • PASS 2 (Stereo Smile) Test

 

  • Color Vision Testing

    • ColorDx Pediatric 15 - CVTME or Color Vision Testing Made Easy test booklet

 

  • Instrument-Based Devices

    • Best practice devices:

      • Retinomax (Right Mfg Co Ltd, Tokyo, Japan)
      • SureSight Vision Screener (SureSight) (Welch-Allyn, Inc, Skaneateles Falls, NY) with the software: version 2.24 or 2.25, School Health Corp, Hanover Park, IL set to minus cylinder form
    • Acceptable practice devices:

      • Plusoptix Photoscreener (Plusoptix, Nuremberg, Germany) 

      • Welch Allyn Spot VS100 (Welch-Allyn, Inc. Skaneateles Falls, NY)
