Assistive Technology Consideration Webinar Series
Join this series of three webinars that explore assistive technology (AT) and accessible educational materials (AEM) considerations and provisions for students throughout Wyoming. There is no cost to join.
AT Consideration - March 3, 2016, noon – 1 p.m. MST In this webinar, participants will be introduced to recommendations of a consideration process for the use of assistive technology (AT) for service teams of all types. AT consideration is viewed as a part of a problem-solving process that will lead to a more targeted approach of the delivery of accommodations and supports. Steps in the problem-solving process will be reviewed, along with the introduction of some recommended supporting documents. The webinar is presented in the hopes of streamlining a systematic and thoughtful approach to the consideration and use of assistive technology for individuals with developmental differences.
AEM Provision Based Best Practices - March 10, 2016, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. MST Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) is located on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) conducted a survey focused on the provision of accessible educational materials (AEM) across the state of Wyoming. As a result, school districts responses showed there was a need to create a researched based best practices resource document. The AEM Provision Based Best Practices document has been created to support IEP teams and school districts with the provision of AEM. This webinar will outline the researched based document to assist school districts with the provision of AEM. From the AEM provision resource, UW-WIND will ask participating school districts to give feedback on this resources accessibility across school districts in Wyoming.
AEM and Assistive Technology - March 17, 2016, noon – 1 p.m. MST Participants will learn how to support the provision of accessible educational materials (AEM) using assistive technology (AT). We will go over the qualifications of a print disability and the provision of AEM. Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) will be demonstrating text-to-speech apps to support the provision of AEM. Bookshare and Learning Ally will also be demonstrated and the qualifications needed in order for students to access accessible educational materials on these platforms. We will also be demonstrating strategies to create accessible educational materials for articles, class assignments, and other educational materials. We hope this webinar will give educators the opportunity to learn more about accessible educational materials and assistive technology.
