Mentor Course Descriptions
EDEX 5550: Supervised Internship in Special Education: WCMA Summer Institute 1
This course will be held in July over a three day period. Topics being covered will include: mentoring relationships, collaboration among educators and administrators, inclusive practices, classroom management, and Special Education law updates. Some institute sessions will be workshops. Presenters for the Summer Institute will include UW Special Education professors and local and national experts. The WCMA program of study includes two Summer Institutes.
EDEX 5070: Trends in Special Education for Mentors 3
This course is designed to provide experience with timely special education issues. Specifically, this course will cover effective mentoring practices and procedures/process for special education.
EDEX 5410: Short Course in Collaboration 3
This course provides the opportunity for intensive study of collaboration as it relates to special education. The course will cover: systematic change, models of collaboration, assessment of students in a collaborative environment and individual and program accountability.
EDEX 5550: Supervised Internship in Special Education: Mentors 1
This course is developed independently between the instructor and the student. Specification of course goals and objectives, instructional procedures, textbook requirements, course requirements and activities, evaluation of students, grading procedures, and the course outline are individually designed based on student need.
EDEX 5870: Seminar: Mentorship 3
This course represents an opportunity for students to examine and explore advanced concepts of mentoring teachers new to the field. The course will cover topics in mentoring including: how to build trusting relationships, offering support in the field, and evaluation and feedback.
Regional Forum
Dependent upon funding, the WCMA advising faculty will conduct annual regional focus groups to collect formative information on WCMA participant�s needs and the WCMA program effectiveness. It is anticipated that the Regional Forums will be conducted for one day during the months of December and January. The WCMA program of study includes two regional forums.
Capstone Gathering
Dependent upon funding, it is anticipated that in July of 2007, all participants who completed the WCMA triadic program will gather to share, renew, refresh, and review how change has been effected through their involvement with the WCMA by bringing what they have learned and accomplished to other educators in the state. The Capstone Event will be held in conjunction with the 2007 WCMA Summer Institute.
