Ed O�Leary, Ed.D., a Program Specialist for Mountain Plains Regional Resource Center, is a nationally recognized authority on transition. Dr. O�Leary will speak about transition planning and effective approaches to meet transition requirements that demonstrate improvement and results.
Patrick Akos, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of School Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill whose areas of expertise include school transitions, group work in schools and developmental advocacy. Dr. Akos� presentation will focus on helping students transition from elementary to middle school.
Nancy B. Mizelle, Ed.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood and Middle Grades Education at Georgia College and State University whose research and writing focuses on transition from middle school to high school. Dr. Mizelle will articulate the transition needs of middle school students and how to support their successful transition into high school.
Carl Liaupsin, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Arizona whose primary areas of interest include teacher training, positive behavior supports and behavior intervention planning. In his presentation Dr. Liaupsin will address the qualities of positive behavior supports that facilitate effective transition from elementary to middle and from middle to high school.
Access 2 Ability is an innovative Wyoming program that assists young adults with disabilities to become employed. Access 2 Ability staff will present information on how they connect youth to the world of work and the services they offer to enhance transition programs in school districts.
Other sessions on topics such as self-determination, IDEA Reauthorization 2004, innovative transition methodology for educators, a student panel describing what worked for them in terms of transition and transition between Preschool and Kindergarten are anticipated.
