Teaching Resource (video + educator's guide) to
Promote Body-Size Acceptance
Important! Activities in the guide are coded for the
K-12 health education standards nationally as well as in Wyoming
The Video: Breaking Size Prejudice is a 23-minute educational video to promote body-size acceptance. The target audience is youth aged 11 to 17 years.
The program:
- Examines how we send and receive messages about body-size diversity
- Provides specific examples of ways to improve communication.
The video includes:
- Introduction of size acceptance issues and societal influences.
- Interviews with people of differing sizes.
- Skits written and produced by 6th and 9th grade youth depicting situations they find themselves in and ways to promote more positive outcomes.
- Thought Bullets for assignments and/or group discussions.
The Educator's Guide: The 21-page educator's guide describes additional activities and projects in order to further promote body-size acceptance. The guide includes several sections:
