Susan McKay Fund 

The Women’s Studies Program is pleased to offer funding to promote internationally-focused research and programming that addresses women’s and girl’s human rights, conflict, and peace. This program is made possible through the generous contributions of Dr. Susan McKay and donations from friends of Women’s Studies.

Purpose:  To help support scholarly, teaching, and programmatic initiatives that proactively addresses women’s and girl’s human rights, conflict, and peace.
Although a broad range of projects will be considered, the following are examples of the teaching research   and community interests that this fund is intended to address:
  • a study of how armed conflict promotes sex trafficking and/or gender-based violence of girls and women
  • a comparative analysis of geo-political regions of women’s peace building initiatives
  • a project to develop the applicant’s ability to teach curricular content about experiences of women/girls in situations of conflict during the past decade, with emphasis on non-State actors
  • an analysis of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (2002) and effects the this Resolution within country-specific contexts
  • an expert speaker to give public presentations on women’s human rights

Awards:   A maximum of $1,000 per application.  UW faculty and staff, undergraduate/graduate students, and Wyoming residents are eligible.     

Types of Support/Limitations:  The fund seeks to enhance feminist research and dissemination of research findings regarding women & girls, armed conflict, and peace.  Recipients may be
from any unit on campus as well as from throughout the state of Wyoming.
The following types of expenses can be covered by this award: 
  • Faculty scholarship/research support, including travel, equipment, supplies and other purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.
  • Graduate student thesis/dissertation support including travel, equipment, supplies and other purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.
  • Undergraduate project support including travel, equipment, supplies and other reasonable purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.
  • Community/campus support for programming such as guest speakers, including travel, equipment, supplies and other reasonable purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.

Application Process:  To apply, complete the application form and return to Ross Hall 100.  The application is available on-line or can be picked up in the Women's Studies main office, Ross Hall 100.

Donations to this account can be made directly to the Women's Studies office or on-line at University of Wyoming Foundation.  Please make sure that any contributions you make through online giving are earmarked for Women’s Studies and this scholarship.
