Outreach Activities

P.D. Stahl and J. Norton: Taught sections on soil management as part of the Reclamation Schools presented by Brenda Schladweiler of BKS Environmental for BLM at Rock Springs, WY and Buffalo, WY in 2009. These Reclamation Schools presented basic information on land reclamation and restoration techniques for professionals in the energy industry.
P.D Stahl: Served on the General Program and Organizational Committee of the 2009 Billings Land Reclamation Symposium. Revitalizing the Environment: Proven Solutions and Innovative Approaches.
P.D. Stahl: Serves as Chair of the Ecology Technical Division of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation.
J. Norton: erves on the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service Reclamation Issue Team.
J. Beck: Presented a departmental seminar entitled "Investigating wildlife population response to disturbance in sagebrush habitats" to the Department of Natural Resources Ecology and Management, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA.
S.E. Williams: Developed Oil and Gas Surface Compliance Internships. These positions will be multifaceted and the individuals selected will have mentored exposure to all aspects of energy development including permitting, construction considerations, planning, reclamation, and monitoring.
Skip Stonesifer (BLM, Rawlins), Kelli Belden (UW, Soil Testing Lab), Susan Foley (BLM, Rawlins) and Stephen Williams (UW, WRRC): Development of soil test kits for field evaluations. Development of a portable, soil analysis kit to be used in the field for evaluation of basic soil parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, texture, topography, carbonates, color, etc.
