Get Engaged

Put in the effort, be rewarded

Being engaged is crucial for success in college, both your learning in the classroom, and school overall.  There are thousands of opportunities to engage with at your college, and it's your responsibility to participate.

Engage in your class

  • Go to class, even when it's optional.
  • Prepare for class by doing the reading. Come with a question.
  • In the classroom, don't just sit and passively listen, interact with the material, and make it interesting to you.
    • Take notes
    • Ask questions
    • Tie the material to your other classes, your own personal experience
    • Find peers who will collaboratively engage with you
  • Engaging with the material not only helps you pay more attention in class, it helps you learn more too.

Engage in your major

  • Almost all majors have opportunities for learning and engagement that go beyond the classroom. Take advantage of your options. Not only will they likely help you with learning, they look great on resumes. These opportunities include, but are not limited to:
    • Internships
    • Research
    • Study Abroad
    • Networking
    • Volunteer work
    • Clubs
