e2e Wyoming Presents: Scott Ford
Entrepreneurship From Within: How a successful enterprise software company decided to turn its 17 year old business model on its head and reinvent itself as a Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) company.
Scott Ford’s career as an entrepreneur started at age 9, when he began reselling his uncle’s carpet samples as doormats door-to-door throughout his neighborhood. After finishing his undergraduate degree at California State University, Long Beach, Scott relocated to Boulder in 1994 to begin his career in the software and service industries.
Scott was tapped to open new markets for Boulder-based Spectra Logic, by establishing their first office outside of Colorado in Santa Clara, CA and then opening their first office outside the US in Tokyo, Japan. After a successful career in technology, Ford earned his MBA at the University of Colorado and then, along with two classmates, founded and was CEO of On-The-Block Auction, a Denver-based eBay drop off store. After growing the business to 7 locations and becoming the largest eBay Trading Post in Colorado, he successfully sold the business in 2006.
Scott joined ZOLL during a period of stagnant growth and product development and helped turn it into the largest provider of software for emergency responders. He is responsible for the service and delivery team for the RescueNet Suite of products, including ZOLL’s suite of SaaS products. He also helped drive significant efficiencies and costs savings through the use of Lean process improvements, and leads the company’s customer satisfaction efforts through the implementation of the Net Promoter System. Scott continues to look for his next entrepreneurial challenge, whether it will be within his current role or through his outside investments.
