The 2018 Wyoming Conference will provide up-to-date information on a variety of topics important to older adults and the professionals, family, and friends in their lives.

Oct 2nd: Preconference options for Professionals and Social Services providers
Oct 3rd & 4th: Conference includes national and regional speakers, interactive and panel sessions on topics such as healthy aging /community aging projects throughout Wyoming, dementia/Alzheimer's, opioids and medication safety, hoarding, support presentations for caregivers; vendor exhibits and much more!

*Continuing Education Opportunities will be available for professionals

    • Option B (8:30am-12noon MST): Workforce Support-Personnel Matters that Matter to include: Managing Effectively, Workers Compensation, Unemployment and Risk Management; NO Charge

Tuesday October 2nd: Preconference Training Options

Option A: Hoarding: *Registration/$35.00 Fee Required

10:30am-12noon: Introductions, From clutter to chaos to squalor
12:00noon-12:20pm LUNCH provided
12:20pm-2:20pm: Hoarding Disorder and Related Diagnoses; Distress and Interpersonal Aspects; Prevalence Course & Onset; Brain physiology and Neuro-spatial perceptions; Assessment exercise.  Impact on Community and Community Resources
2:20pm-2:30pm BREAK
2:30pm-5pm: Self-Neglect as Elder Abuse; Compulsive acquisitions; Reasons for saving – Value categories; Treatment Modalities: Medications; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Motivational Interviewing; Exposure With Response Prevention (ERP) to reduce acquisitions; Mindfulness; Peer Support Groups; Harm Reduction.  Boots on the ground – Interventions in the home.

Option B: “Workforce Support: Personnel Matters that Matter” to include: managing effectively, workers compensation, unemployment and Risk Management. *Registration Required, no charge.

9:15-12 Department of Workforce Services will have representatives presenting information on Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation and Risk Management. They will provide an overview of the programs, as well as provide important information every employer needs to know to help understand and manage their costs. There will be an opportunity for questions.

11:20 AM Breakout sessions on:  Intellectual Developmental Disabilities & Dementia; Providing Support for Persons Living with Dementia and their Caregivers; and "Live Fit, Age Well"

12:30 PM Lunch Presentation: Elder Fraud Prevention

2:15 PM Breakout sessions on:  Importance of Dementia Screening, Good Communication and Follow- up Care to support families;  Positive Approach to Care of Dementia and Elder Abuse Rx.

Sponsoring the Wyoming Conference on Aging will expose your business or organization to many regional healthcare professionals, direct care workers, older adults, and caregivers.  The 2015 Wyoming Conference on Aging was held in Cheyenne and was a success, attracting approximately 150 participants. Sponsors and Exhibitors are also encouraged to attend the sessions at the Conference.

HOST the conference at your site or organization!

 This Fall 2018 Wyoming Conference on Aging Planning Committee will be broadcasting the Conference LIVE to participating sites.  For a $200 fee an unlimited number of staff can virtually attend all or part of the conference at your site.  Participants can earn up to 14 Professional Continuing Education Credits Contact Hours.
Requirements to host: 
  • A venue or room to host the virtual conference.
  • A landline internet connection, a PC, and a Projector to show the streaming video.
  • A site coordinator responsible for setting up the venue; as well as working with WyCOA to disseminate necessary paperwork to participants.  Detailed information regarding the conference will be sent to your designated site coordinator via email the last week of September.
  • Must be able to show BOTH days of the conference.
  • Schedule a technology test run in September 2018.
