Wyoming Seniors Taking Action in Aging Research (WySTAAR)

The WySTAAR Registry is a database of Wyoming Residents over age 55 who are interested in volunteering for research studies at the University of Wyoming.

Older adults are typically under-represented in scientific research, making study results less relevant to the older population. Rural, older individuals are highly underrepresented.

WySTAAR was created to:

• Facilitate the inclusion of older adults in University of Wyoming research studies
• Help increase the quantity and quality of research relating to older adults

WySTAAR will match research volunteers with studies for which they are likely to qualify using information provided by each volunteer. WySTAAR volunteers will complete a registration form about general medical history, and behavioral and demographic information. All data will be kept secure and kept strictly confidential according to guidelines established by the University of Wyoming Institutional Review Board (IRB).

The WySTAAR Registry is available to all University of Wyoming researchers who require older research volunteers for their IRB approved studies. Interested researchers will be encouraged to contact the WySTAAR Registry to discuss their research projects and potential needs. The WySTAAR Registry will work closely with volunteers and researchers to match research projects with volunteers who meet the inclusion criteria.

The WySTAAR Registry offers:

• Enthusiastic and interested volunteers
• Searchable database including medical, demographic, and other searchable fields
• Recruitment assistance
• Resource information on subject recruitment for use in grant applications

*At no cost, WySTAAR staff will run a preliminary query to provide a general idea of how many volunteers are available that would qualify for your study. This free preliminary query will help researchers determine whether WySTAR can meet their needs.

If you are an older adult interested in joining WySTAR or a researcher interested in accessing this database, please contact Christine McKibbin, PhD at
