WYCS Hackathon

Presented as a collaboration between the Wyoming CSTA, the University of Wyoming WyCS Hub (Colleges of Engineering and Education), and the Wyoming Department of Education.
  • The Challenge

Your challenge is to develop and solve a programming activity that you would use in your classroom! The activity should somehow be themed and/or tailored to your community (for distributed teams, 'Wyoming as a community'). As a challenge, your activity must utilize a makecode virtual environment (e.g., arcade, microbit, or Minecraft) which enables drag and drop programming as well as common programming languages (e.g., javascript, python). Your activity should be complex enough to embed three current Wyoming CS Standards but take a student ~1-2 class periods to complete. Additionally, teams are challenged to highlight how the activity might intersect with other disciplines (within and beyond STEM). Teams may build upon existing materials (cite them) but should aim to tailor final products to their Wyoming classroom.

The final deliverables, due Thursday at Noon are:

    1. Your final activity description
    2. A possible solution to the final activity
    3. A 10 minute (or less) YouTube video (unlisted or public) describing
      1. the proposed activity,
      2. how you’ve tailored the activity to your community,
      3. relevant standards,
      4. a possible solution to the activity,
      5. your roadblocks
      6. and future plans (use, iteration, etc.).
