The Wyoming Teacher Education Program (WTEP) is one of the premier teacher preparation programs in the United States. It is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Secondary English teacher education at the University of Wyoming occurs in three phases.

Phase I begins in the sophomore year when students take EDST 2480, Diversity & the Politics of Schooling, and begin working in the public schools.

In Phase II, EDST 3000, Teacher as Decision Maker, students are introduced to unit and lesson plans. During this practicum experience they teach in a k-12 classroom. Students are admitted to the WTEP upon meeting requirements and enrolling in Phase II.

Phase III is a two-semester sequence. The Phase IIIA semester takes place in the fall and consists of pedagogy classes.   Phase IIIB, the student teaching or residency semester, is completed in the spring semester.  Application is made for Phase III in December of the year prior to actually enrolling.
