University of Wyoming GIS Analyst Margo Berendsen introduced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to 4th grade students at Beitel elementary school in Laramie

Students had opportunities to interact with ArcGIS Explorer Online, a free web-based GIS, to learn more about the history of Wyoming in preparation for field trip to Fort Laramie National Historic Site. Using publicly available aerial photos with locations linked to websites about historic Wyoming forts and other landmarks, the students compared present day and historical maps with aerial photos and learned how to make measurements on maps and identify features.
