Wyoming Student Atlas
1 January 2013 - Ongoing
University of Wyoming, Academic Affairs
Development of a new Wyoming Student Atlas is underway at the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center. The purpose of the student atlas is to provide K-12 students and teachers with resources that will aid in learning more about Wyoming geography while at the same time increasing students' spatial awareness and critical thinking skills. The student atlas will be a full color, soft-cover book containing approximately sixty 9”x12” pages of maps, graphics and associated information, including important facts about Wyoming and map reading skills. Categories in physical geography include geology, climate, water, wildlife and many others; categories in human geography include human settlement and historic points of interest, population change, land ownership, and many maps related to economic, political, and cultural geography.
The Wyoming Student Atlas is being produced by WyGISC in partnership with UW’s Department of Geography and the Wyoming Geographic Alliance. With an expected publication date of September 2014, the student atlas is the first of three primary products envisioned as part of the recently launched Atlas of Wyoming Project, the others being a comprehensive large-format hardcover atlas book and an accompanying digital, Web-based map viewer.
